Helping Climate Dollars Deliver More Progress
We understand the power of storytelling in driving climate action. That’s why we proudly offer expert copywriting, editing, and narrative strategy services at a discount to organizations defending our planet.
Theresa helped us determine the audiences we wanted to reach, the actions we wanted them to take, and how to best communicate the importance of freshwater to every Canadian. She gave us the framing we needed to hit the ground running.
John McCutcheon, Philanthropist, Canada’s Freshwater Initiative

Our Climate Work
In late 2024, philanthropist John McCutcheon announced a $20 million bequest to seven Canadian organizations in order to mobilize public will, restore vital ecosystems, and spearhead a new era of freshwater stewardship in Canada. It remains the largest individual donation to freshwater conservation in Canadian history.
To spread awareness about Canada’s Freshwater Initiative, as the partnership became known, McCutcheon approached Lightbulb Narrative to create a call-to-action, asking governments, businesses, and everyday Canadians to get involved in the fight to protect Canada’s freshwater resources.
Theresa worked with McCutcheon and the leadership of each of the seven organizations receiving the bequest to understand the depth of the challenge, generate ideas for addressing it, and create a rallying document to help bring on more supporters to the cause. That document became “Canada’s Freshwater Challenge” and continues to be used by the Initiative to engage stakeholders and drive change.

Theresa helped me get on track with a fundraising campaign with lots of useful advice for planning and technique. I’m very grateful!

Our Climate Work
Ahead of the 2025 federal election, a group of nature advocates led by Nature Canada were looking to put the climate, environmental, and biodiversity crises on the political agenda by calling on all parties to address these issues in their campaign platforms.
Theresa worked with the group to draft a platform containing key messages and specific calls-to-action relevant to the group’s varied audiences across Canada’s environmental sector. Theresa reviewed the draft content the group had produced to that point and strategically re-worked the content to better attract the attention of political decision-makers.
The release of The Nature Platform during the election campaign drew the attention of the national parties. Specifically, the call-to-action to create 25 new national parks became the headline of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s campaign event launching the party’s environmental platform.
Many of the calls-to-action laid out in The Nature Platform – such as protecting 30% of Canada’s lands and waters as well as new funding for Indigenous Guardians programs – were adopted by the governing Liberal Party of Canada.

Theresa was a fantastic collaborator – kind, responsive, capable.

Our Climate Work
Ahead of the 2019 federal election, a group of climate advocates looked to put the climate emergency on the political agenda by calling on all parties to address it in their campaign platforms and rhetoric.
Theresa worked with the group to draft key messages relevant to their varied audiences in the environmental sector, millennial cohort, and faith communities across Canada. Building on those key messages, Theresa crafted five articles over the course of the election period that highlighted different aspects of the climate crisis.
These articles were posted to the websites of the group to help spread their message during the election. One of these pieces was submitted as an op-ed article and published by the Toronto Star.
